The other day, I came across this article that discussed the growing trend of women choosing to start families later in life.
And it struck a chord with me.
As a 35-year-old woman who welcomed her first baby at what some might call a “late” age of 31, I felt a strong connection to the topic.
I brought up the topic while in the playground, surrounded by moms of various ages, and it sparked quite a discussion.
Everyone shared their opinion on this subject, and I felt eager to write my thoughts on the matter.
For the longest time, society dectaited that women were supposed to have their babies in their twenties. But as this article pointed out, times are changing, and more of us are hitting pause on the whole baby thing while we chase other dreams.
I totally get it.
In my twenties, my focus was on enjoying life, exploring the world, and making memories (I miss those days…)
The whole idea of settling down and having kids felt like something from a different universe.
I tied the knot at the age of 29 (a seasoned spinster, according to some), and that’s when I began to feel the pressure from my family and friends to start a family.
I’d always dreamed of being a mom, but I wanted to make sure I was ready – emotionally, financially, mentally – before taking the plunge.
So, my primary focus was on building my career (and as you’re likely aware, having babies tends to disrupt this, but that’s a topic for another post).
I took the time to really establish myself in my career and as a person before becoming a mom.
When my thirties rolled around, something shifted. Maybe I began to notice the ticking of my biological clock a little more loudly.
And when I finally became a mom at 31, I did it with a sense of purpose and confidence that I don’t think I would’ve had in my younger days.
Now, with two little ones in tow, I can say parenting at an older age has its ups and downs.
Sure, there are moments of pure exhaustion and “What am I doing?!” panic, but there’s also this incredible feeling of fulfillment and gratitude that comes with having kids when it feels right.

One of the biggest perks of waiting? Well, By the time I took on the title of “Mom”, I’d already checked off a bunch of career goals and had an amazing support system in place.
And you know what else? Waiting gave me a different perspective on parenting. I’m more patient, more chill, and way better at savoring those little moments that make parenthood so darn special.
Now, being an older mom does come with its challenges – fertility worries, energy dips, the struggle of keeping up with speedy little kids…
But I’m a firm believer that age is just a number. What really counts is the love and dedication we pour into being parents.
Waiting gave me the chance to live a full and happy life before diving into the chaos (and joy) of motherhood. I’m proud of myself for not letting the pressure from my loved ones and society dictate this life-changing decision.
