How To Make Your Newborn Fall Asleep

Hey mamas, I wanted to share with you one of my absolute favorite activities I did with my little ones. It’s a magical routine that not only helps tire out your baby but also strengthens your bond and helps them drift off to dreamland in no time.

This activity is ideal for babies aged 0 to 3 months. Keep in mind that they may not be able to complete the entire routine in one go. It’s common for newborn to fall asleep during one of the initial steps. So it’s essential to listen to your baby’s cues. Watch for signs like eye rubbing or yawning, indicating they’re ready for sleep.

The duration of this routine can vary widely, ranging from 2 to 20 minutes, depending on your baby’s needs and responsiveness.

You can choose to do this activity once a day or incorporate it into your baby’s pre-nap routine as needed. Ultimately, it’s all about finding what works best for you and your baby.

I sincerely hope this activity brings you as much joy and bonding with your baby as it did for me when I was trying to tire out my little ones in a fun way. Are you ready to dive into the routine?

Step 1: Set the Scene

Before you begin, make sure your little one is well-fed, dry, and cozy. Ensure their hands and feet are free from any constraints, and they’re lying comfortably on a soft mat in front of you.
If it’s chilly and you’re worried about your baby getting cold, simply warm up the room. It’s crucial for your baby to experience your direct touch on their feet.

Step 2: Touch Touch Touch

Start by gently going over your baby’s body parts with your fingers. From their tiny toes to their button nose, explore each part with a delicate touch. This helps them become familiar with their body and promotes sensory development. Try different kinds of touches like rubbing, tickling, and gentle pressure. Observe your baby’s reactions to see what they enjoy most, whether it’s a soft stroke or a playful tickle.

Step 3: Sing Songs

Now, it’s time for some musical fun! Sing a sweet song about their legs, like “This Little Piggy Went to Market,” as you gently wiggle their toes. Then, sing about their hands with a catchy tune, maybe something like “Open, Shut Them.” Don’t worry if you’re not a great singer; your little one knows your voice from the womb and adores it. In their eyes, you’re like Beyoncé! Trust me, the combination of touch and melody is pure magic for soothing those little ones.

Step 4: Tackle Tummy Troubles

First up, we’re gonna work some magic with a gentle tummy massage. Get ready to channel your inner massage therapist! Start by massaging their tummy in a clockwise direction. Picture yourself kneading dough, but way more delicate. This can help relieve gas and ease any tummy aches your little one might be feeling.

Now, for a move straight out of the baby yoga playbook: grab their chubby little legs just below the knees and start gently moving them in a circular motion. This motion can help get things moving in the digestive department and give gas the boot.

But wait, there’s more! Wanna know another trick to help those toots make a grand exit? Try the ol’ bicycle legs maneuver. Hold their legs, and start pedaling them like they’re on a teeny-tiny bicycle. Not only is it adorable to watch, but it can also help relieve gas and discomfort.

Step 5: Tummy Time

Roll your baby over onto their belly for some essential tummy time. Support them as they lift their head and explore their surroundings. Use this opportunity to gently stroke their back, shoulders, and legs, providing them with comforting sensations. Don’t stress about how long they should stay on their tummy; if they seem uncomfortable, simply roll them over. With each time, their tolerance for tummy time will grow, so just enjoy the journey!

Step 6: Rolling Adventures

Teach your baby how to roll from their belly to their back and vice versa. Guide them through the motion with gentle encouragement. Lay a hand on their feet and gently move it towards their belly, encouraging them to follow the movement with their body. Use soothing words and facial expressions to reassure them as they learn this new skill. This not only helps strengthen their muscles but also boosts their confidence.

Step 7: Sensory Stimulation

Incorporate various textures and toys into the activity to stimulate your baby’s senses. Soft blankets, rattles, and plush toys can add an extra dimension of engagement to the experience.
Gently touching their hands, legs, face, and other exposed body parts with different textures encourages sensory development.

Step 8: Relaxation Time

As you near the end of the routine, transition into some calming activities. Gently sway your baby back and forth while softly humming a lullaby. This signals to them that it’s time to wind down and prepare for sleep.

And there you have it, a foolproof routine guaranteed to tire out your little one and send them off to dreamland with ease. Give it a try and watch as your baby drifts off into a peaceful slumber, leaving you with some well-deserved mommy time.
